Results of BakuTel 2011
The 17th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition and Conference, BakuTel 2011, has now come to an end. One of the most ambitious, popular and largest by attendance, this exhibition closes the 2011 season.
BakuTel is always an interesting and rich exhibition, showing the public all the latest and most significant innovations in ICT. This event, which literally opens a window on the future for everybody, allows us to look at how our world will change under the influence of information technology. Every year, by meeting here, hundreds of companies from various countries get an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss current issues, establish partnerships and lay the groundwork for future co-operation.
Through its improvement and development, BakuTel enjoys greater authority each year, and this was mentioned in his address to the exhibition participants by Azerbaijani President H.E. Ilham Aliyev. The Head of State, who traditionally shows interest in both the industry and the largest ICT exhibition in the region, visited the stands of leading domestic and international companies, at which he was informed in detail about the 3G and 4G services proposed by the country's leading operators, and examined a number of major infrastructure projects, including the EPEG cable route, connecting Europe and Asia. The President was also given information about the construction of a major DATA-centre in Baku, the location of which has been selected by global content giants to accommodate regional servers; e-learning; electronic signatures; electronic banking services, and more. The President visited the national stands of the countries participating in the exhibition, where he was informed of the projects and plans of these countries for their future co-operation with Azerbaijan.
In today's world, where the networked economy and the production of information technologies are becoming more visible and important in the structure of economies, the role of the exhibition in the demonstration and promotion of the latest ICT developments and awareness of the innovations in the industry will undoubtedly increase. BakuTel fulfils this role 100 per cent. The business programme, teeming with meetings of leading industry experts, and various workshops and presentations, and International Conference on Telecommunications and Information Technologies, held as part of the programme, have demonstrated how rapidly the field of ICT, which has become a priority among the non-oil sectors of the economy, is developing in Azerbaijan.
The current exhibition is twice as large as the previous one, which is also a clear indication of the development of and demand for ICT. The two pavilions demonstrated the many innovations for use in various spheres of life: transportation, education, banking, broadcasting, etc.
The professionals’ attention was particularly attracted to a special project at the exhibition entitled the “Smart Zone”. In this area promising young talents were provided with a unique opportunity to present their ICT projects and programmes and bring them to the attention of industry professionals.
BakuTel is very popular among young people. Local mobile operators arranged a true celebration in the exhibition halls of Baku Expo Centre. On an improvised stage, they organized performances by young singers, a photo shoot with the winners of Eurovision 2011, and various prize draws, contests and quizzes. Some of the visitors to BakuTel have become the first lucky owners of tickets for Eurovision 2012, which were given away in a prize draw on Azercell’s stand. The flashmob by Azerfon, the communication partner of the exhibition, can confidently be considered the culmination of the entertainment. The attending TV broadcasters and computer experts also kept pace with the telephone operators - B & B TV hosted a mini-theatre on its stand where one could watch movies in 3D, and many queued to try their hand at online games in the game room organised by Microsoft, the main sponsor of the exhibition.
It is clear that BakuTel 2011 has become an important business event and, at the same time, a highlight in the life of citizens and guests of Baku City.
We look forward to seeing you next year from 21 to 24 November!
